Award for B.N. Datta

Presidential Research Professor Biswa Nath Datta of the Mathematical Sciences Department recently delivered a one-hour plenary address "Recent Developments on Computational Methods for Feedback Control in Distributed Parameter Systems" at the First International Conference on Nonlinear Analysis and Modeling held in Fethiye, Turkey, July 17-23, 2001. The conference was held under the auspices of the International Federation of Nonlinear analysts (IFNA), and was attended by approximately one hundred applied and computational mathematicians from throughout the world.

At the opening ceremony, which was attended by the mayor and vice-mayor of Fethiye, Professor Datta was interviewed by CNN-Turkey regarding his opinion on the importance of the conference. During the interview he was asked about his scholarly contributions. The interview was broadcast throughout Turkey.

At the closing ceremony Professor Datta was given a plaque by the governor of the Province of Fethiye with the following citation:

"This plaque is awarded to Professor B. N. Datta (USA) in recognition of his outstanding contributions and plenary talk at the "First International Conference on Nonlinear Analysis and Modeling", held in Fethiye, Turkey, July 17-23, 2001.
