Recharge during your last week of classes! Stop by the Graduate School for a free cup of coffee, a bagel, and conversation with fellow graduate students and Graduate School staff. We will also be giving away NIU Graduate School coffee mugs (on a first come, first served basis). This event is free and open to all NIU graduate students.

Latino Graduation

In honor of all the achievements and efforts of our Graduating Latino/a/x students at Northern Illinois University the Latino Resource Center presents Latino Graduation; hosted in both Fall and Spring. You, your family, faculty, staff, and friends are all invited to the Latino Graduation to show your support for our graduating students.
Latino Dinner
Tuesday December 5, 4 to 8 PM at Patterson Dining
Every semester, the Latino Resource Center partners with Campus Dining Services for Latino Dinner. Each semester, different countries are highlighted; this semester is: Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. Come join us for some delicious food, music, and fun! The Latino Resource Center will be paying for the first 25 students that do not have a meal plan.

Graduate Fall 2023 commencement ceremony

Congratulations, graduates! Commencement is almost here! For those participating in commencement this semester, tickets will be released to your graduate student account the week of commencement. The doors will open at 1 P.M., and all participating graduates will need to be in line by 1:30 P.M. Failure to show up before 1:30 P.M. could result in not being able to participate. Graduate Student Success Series
January 8, 9, and 10 at 8 AM – 1 PM
Online. The Graduate Student Success Series offers graduate students a series of themed professionalization events designed to provide an in-depth look into specific elements of the graduate experience. Each event consists of a series of sessions, panels, or interactive workshops that support NIU graduate students in developing the practical skills necessary to complete their degrees. In collaboration with: University Writing Center, Huskie Academic Support Center, University Libraries, Founders Learning Commons, Graduate School, and various colleges and faculty.

Zeta Gamma Chapter of Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars
The Zeta Gamma Chapter at NIU was thrilled to induct 25 new members, including 21 students, on Tuesday, Nov. 14. Phi Beta Delta raises awareness of the importance of international experiences in higher education. It helps connect those on campus who are involved in international programs and recognizes their achievements. Our members include international and U.S. students, scholars, faculty, and staff. Phi Beta Delta’s Rising Scholars Lecture Series will start in spring. It is open to our student members and to non-member students as well. This lecture series is for rising NIU scholars with international focused research (including immigrant communities) to have an opportunity to present their research in an interdisciplinary virtual atmosphere for the NIU community. Call for Papers for Southeast Asian Studies Student Conference

Northern Illinois University’s annual Southeast Asian Studies Student Conference is inviting submissions for its annual symposium, which is set for Saturday, April 6, 2024. We welcome submissions of abstracts until January 31, 2024. Our purpose is to celebrate original research from a broad range of fields that engage with Southeast Asia creatively; undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to submit papers from various disciplines. Call for Papers for Regional History Conference
Due January 15, 2023
The Regional History Center at NIU Libraries invites proposals for papers, sessions, panels, and multi-media presentations for a conference exploring transnational communities and global influences in and on the history and cultural heritage of Northern Illinois. We invite proposals from professionals and amateurs across disciplines that address the history of transnational communities and the many reciprocal global-local influences that continue to characterize the region. The conference organizers hope to engage a diverse audience of scholars, practitioners, students, hobbyists, community leaders, and others to examine the effects and implications of these phenomena. The presentation format is open and both group and individual session proposals will be considered. Learn details and submit a proposal.

I am pursuing my Ph.D. in physics. A lot of physics just makes sense to me, which sounds so pretentious, but I'm able to really visualize what's happening in my head. That of course makes the connection to the math harder, but I just really like the problem-solving aspect
